From Diagnosis to Discovery

Meet Nathan, Founder of Cortexa Therapeutics

My name is Nathan Cole, and I am the founder of Cortexa Therapeutics. At the age of 31 I was diagnosed with ALS. I’m an active-duty Marine aviator and former infantry corpsman with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines based in Camp Lejeune. Over 12 years of Naval service and two deployments in support of the Global War on Terror have shaped my perspective on resilience, purpose, and urgency.

Beyond my professional background, I’m a husband to Kara, my partner of seven years, and a proud father to two incredible kids, both under the age of three.

Cortexa Therapeutics was born from a deep necessity and an unwavering drive to make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases. We are focused on exploring overlooked and underfunded mechanisms in the nervous system to develop precision-targeted therapies. By addressing root causes like calcium dysregulation and neuronal hyperexcitability, we aim to change the trajectory of these diseases.

We are moving fast—because people like me don’t have time to wait.

Join us on this journey as we push the boundaries of science and work tirelessly to bring hope to those who need it most. Together, we can make an impact.
