Nathan’s Story
Everything changed for Nathan Cole on Memorial Day 2024.
At only 31, Nathan, a decorated Marine Aviator and former Infantry Corpsman with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines – was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Over 12 years of Naval service and two deployments in support of the Global War on Terror have shaped his perspective on resilience, purpose, and urgency. But nothing could have prepared him for this! Beyond his professional background, Nathan is a son, brother, and husband to Kara, his wife of seven years. He is also a very proud father to two incredible kids, both under the age of three. Rather than surrender to this horrible disease, Nathan has decided to fight yet another battle! He launched a mission of his own: @cortexatherapeutics. Born not from ambition but necessity, Cortexa is fueled by urgency – and by Nathan’s relentless drive to change lives. The company is pioneering new approaches to combat ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases by targeting the nervous system’s most overlooked and underfunded mechanisms. By focusing on root causes like calcium imbalance and neuronal hyperexcitability, Cortexa is racing to develop breakthrough, precision-based therapies.
